Lauren and Jeffrey

You might remember Lauren and Jeffrey from earlier this year when we shared the celebration of their engagement by showcasing the images from their intimate picnic at home with their fur babies, the session and their full proposal story can be viewed by clicking here. Well, today on the blog, we have the privilege of sharing with your their spectacular wedding photos captured by the talented Nikk of Nikk Nguyen Photo, and we are utterly captivated so stay tuned as we chat to the lovely couple and find out all about the lead up to their wedding, their planing tips and of course the all-important wedding day.

Remind our readers, what was your proposal story?

We got engaged while on a cruise in the North Sea! He surprised me by having the suite set up with the curtains drawn back to see the ocean and had champagne icing with flutes set up. I was totally caught off guard when we walked into the room and my ring was sitting right next to the champagne in the living room. It was so romantic and intimate. After, we met his family in the concierge lounge to celebrate with a delicious dessert spread. Second best day of my life!

Tell us a little bit about your wedding, what was your vision, colour, style and choice of location?

Our vision for the wedding was to keep it simple. We didn’t want to get too outlandish or lose focus on the importance of the actual wedding. We knew we wanted to keep it small and that we wanted to make sure the food was delish and the drinks flowing. We were lucky enough that our favourite restaurant in Austin, Justine’s, had their own location for small events. When we toured the house and the colour scheme fell into place (pinks reds and greenery).

Tell us about your choice of attire.

We planned our wedding in two months, so finding attire in that time frame was a bit tricky. My husband always orders his suits from Suit Supply so ordering his suit was easy. He chose the colour and accessories as well. I really didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a dress and dreaded buying off the rack due to the time frame. I took a shot and went dress hunting at the mall. I went in having no expectations or vision. I actually found my dress at Altar’d State! An off the shoulder romper which is definitely my style. It was perfect! I added blush shoes from Barney’s and a statement earring. It was simple and perfect for me!

What was the most important to the two of you while planning, was there anything that you chose to splurge on or to skip?

The most important thing for us was that we served good food and drinks. Since we were having such a small wedding (sixty people), we luckily had room in the budget to make sure that happened. We skipped on a ton of decor because we got so lucky with the look of the venue. I also skipped on spending a ton of money on a dress.

What was your favourite part of the day?

My absolute favourite part of the day was our ceremony! I walked out to “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis with my Dad. It was so beautiful and intimate and the lighting was just a perfect way to walk down to my husband. Even though there were 60 people there watching us, it felt like it was just him and I sharing the most perfect moment ever.

We are all about the florals, tell us all about your choice of flowers and florist.

I knew I wanted something organic looking that incorporated the colours I wanted as well as some succulents. We used the florist that does work exclusively for Justine’s. I showed her a few pictures and just let her work her magic. Her vision was pure gold. I can’t express enough how the floral brought that venue and my vision to life. Besides my bouquet, my favourite thing she did was a circle of flowers that we stood in during the ceremony. It made it feel that much more special and intimate.

Tell us all about your wedding cake.

We chose not to go crazy with cake. We instead chose to do a Buntini cake tower with a small bundt cake up top. It was delicious and a total hit!

What did you do for favours?

We chose to gift succulents! Our florist chose a variety, potted them, then decorated them with paper and custom stickers. They were adorable!

Did you include any DIY elements, handmade items or personal details?

I decided to DIY our welcome sign with a chalkboard and flowers. I also custom made welcome bags with a letter from us to our out of town guests and Austin-themed goodies.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

The reason I chose to walk out to an Elvis song was to pay tribute to my grandfather who passed a few years ago. He loved Elvis.

What is your advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their weddings?

Keep the eye on the prize! It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the little details that you almost forget the whole point of it is to commit yourself to someone for the rest of your life!
